Afghan Peace Process: The Way Forward
On 26th September, AUAF along with The State Ministry for Peace and the American Institute for Afghanistan Studies (AIAS) organized a panel discussion on Afghan Peace Process: The Way Forward. This event is part of a continuing series to bring a wide range of expert opinions to public discussions at AUAF. The discussion was led by President David Sedney along with the panelists; Dr. Habiba Sarabi, Deputy Chair of the High Peace Council and the Senior Advisor on Women Affairs to the Chief Executive; Professor William Maley, a Professor of Diplomacy at the Asia-Pacific College of Diplomacy and also a Barrister of the High Court of Australia and Vice President of the Refugee of the Refugee Council of Australia; Dr. Omar Sadr, an Assistant Professor of Political Science at AUAF and also a research affiliate with AISS; and Sami Mahdi, a journalist at Afghanistan Bureau Chief for the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
Each of the panelists shared their own views and concerns for the peace process. The discussion focused on the progress of the peace process during the last few months and how both Afghanistan and the United States should approach a future peace process. A lively Q&A session involving outside guests, along with AUAF faculty and students, followed the presentations.
