AUAF Alumna Delivers Remarks at the UN

Heela Yoon, a recent AUAF graduate, joined United Nations Secretary General Guterres and UN Women Executive Director Mlambo-Ngcuka in delivering remarks during the UN’s 64th Anniversary of Commission on Statues of Women (CSW) on March 9, 2020.  Heela currently serves as the Cora Weiss Fellow at the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders, where she is working to highlight the challenges that Afghan youth and women are facing today.  She is also the founder of the NGO Afghan Women Welfare and Development Association (AWWDA).  Representing youth from around the world, Heela used the CSW platform to draw attention to the need for a meaningful role for Afghan youth and women in state building and the peace process.  She urged "all parties involved ... to remain committed to international human rights and women’s rights instruments” and called upon "the UN and Member States to ensure that the voices of women and youth peacebuilders are central to these global processes.”  Read her full statement here. https://gnwp.org/gnwps-cora-weiss-fellow-civil-society-briefer-at-un-csw64/
