AUAF held its 9th commencement ceremony

On May 21st, 2019, The American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) held its 9th annual commencement ceremony. This major event was attended by Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive of National Unity Government; Dr. Hamdullah Mohib, National Security Advisor to President Ghani; Amb. John R. Bass, United State Ambassador to Afghanistan; AUAF Board of trustees, and several other top diplomats and government officials. During this ceremony, one hundred and fourteen students graduated with bachelor degrees in Business Administration, Law, Political Science and Public Administration, and Information Technology and master degree in Business Administration.

The event commenced by a welcoming remarks by Dr. Holland, President of the University. He recognized late Dr. Sharif Fayez’s, AUAF Founder, passion and commitment to the University and higher education of Afghanistan.

Followed by the welcoming remarks, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, congratulated the class of 2019 and called AUAF as the centre of excellence in higher education of Afghanistan. “This is a happy moment for us as the citizens of this country and the graduates who are taking responsibilities for the future of this country”, said Dr. Abdullah Abdullah.

Dr. Hamdullah Mohib, expressed his gratitude to AUAF in fighting and defeating violence and war through education. He said “AUAF is a testament to the fact that—despite whatever differences or challenges we may face along the way—the US-Afghan partnership is strong, and that both of our countries, as key allies, have the same vision for the country’s future for prosperity and peace. We both believe in the same values to realize that vision—education, tolerance, and progress.”

This year, AUAF presented Mrs. Holly Holzer, U.S. Diplomat and spouse of the U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan, the Honorary Doctorate Degree of Humane Letters. During her remarks, she said, “We are all the superheroes of our own lives, so ask yourself, what are your superpowers and how will you use them for good.”

The American University of Afghanistan was founded in 2006 and has graduated more than twelve hundred students with both masters and undergraduate degrees. AUAF provides international standard education of the highest possible quality through devoted international and national faculty, most progressive teaching methods and material and a thriving environment. The university has trained some of the foremost leaders of Afghanistan and is committed to contributing to a prosperous future in the country through educating tomorrow’s leaders.
