Do you know about N-Peace? N-Peace is a multi-country network of peace advocates in Asia seeking
to advance Women, Peace & Security (WPS). It supports women’s leadership for conflict prevention,
resolution and peace building, and promotes the implementation of United Nations Security Council
Resolution (UNSCR) 1325, and the broader women peace and security agenda. N-Peace rests on the
assumption that if targeted women and men are supported with increased investments in capacity and
skills, then they will be able to create institutional and social shifts to prioritize the inclusion and
empowerment of women and girls and change discourse on the roles of women in peace building.
Since 2010, N-Peace has been active in Nepal, Pakistan, Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka
and Afghanistan. The members have come from civil society, government, non-government
organizations, academia, United Nations agencies, religious groups and the media.
This year, AUAF’s very own Ms. Suraya Yosufi, the Global Alumni Coordinator, has been awarded the
“Peace Generation” award, which recognizes the work of a young woman and a man (between the ages
of 18-25) who have demonstrated how volunteerism can be a powerful means of promoting social
cohesion and reconciliation through engaging the community – especially youths. One woman and one
man across all N-Peace countries is recognized under this award.
Ms. Suraya, a graduate of AUAF, competed with 80 nominees for the votes of over 8,500 people from
across 87 countries to win the award. She will travel to Bangkok in January to collect the award.
Our heartfelt congratulation to Ms. Yosufi! We are proud of you.
