Tribute to Martyred Professor Naqib Khpulwak

On Monday April 24th the law department of the American University of Afghanistan held an event in tribute to the members of AUAF community who lost their lives in tragic incident of August 24th including, Professor Naqib Khpulwak and Jamshid Zafar of the law department. This event also highlighted the success of Law students in William C.VIS moot, International Law School Mediation Tournament. Family members of professor Khpulwak, students, faculty, and professor Erik of Stanford University who knew professor Khpulwak in person at Stanford University were among the participants of this event. A book written by Shah Mahmood Miakhil "In the Memory of Martyred Professor Khpulwak" was also launched during this event. Law faculty members, Professor Erik, and Professor Khpulwak’s family members shared their memories with students and faculty and paid their regards.
The Naqib Khpulwak Law Faculty Library of American University of Afghanistan was inaugurated during this event as well as the Rule of Law and Peace Studies section of the Law Library. The law department of the American University of Afghanistan has been one of the outstanding departments of the university with continues achievement throughout the years. One of its recent achievements has been the participation of Law students in 14th Annual VIS International Commercial Arbitration Moot along with other countries in Kuwait and Hong Kong. AUAF students received the Runner Up (Second) position in Kuwait per their Pre- Moot session and won the Spirit award among eighteen teams of eleven countries.
“It is an internal fight for all of us, to be standing back again” said Mehdi Hakimi, former law professor in AUAF and executive director of Stanford Law while giving a speech. The American University of Afghanistan along with its departments are in constant hard work to bring back the department not only to full operation but to enhance the opportunities and activities even more.
