On Monday, December 11, 2017, the Professional Development Institute (PDI) of the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) inaugurated its Customs Program Unit. Under this unit, the PDI will be offering customized courses in Energy, Agriculture and Irrigation, Medical Sciences, Engineering, Water Management, Mining, Civil Aviation, and plenty of other such tailor-made courses.
To the ceremony, Dr. Sharif Fayez, founder of the AUAF, H.E Mohammad Gul Khulmi, Deputy Minister of Energy and Water (MoEW) and Mr. Essa Qudrat, Senior Advisor to the Minister and Director of Planning in the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) offered their erudite insights regarding the importance of public sector collaboration with academic partners to meet market demands and solve many of the key problems faced by the country. H. E Mohammad Gul Khulmi, Deputy Minister of Energy and Water, quoted that “access to energy is one of the focus areas of MoEW and MRRD, and identifying the need for management and capacity building in this sector is of vital importance”.
Abdul Hakim Waziri, Director of Professional Development Institute, presented a presentation regarding the PDI’s operations and services. Mr. Waziri officially introduced the Customs Program Unit, by indicating its need in Afghanistan, in order to meet the market demand, stakeholders’ and donors’ expectations, investors’ attraction, and the participation of private sector in capacity building and professional development.
Eventually, all of the participants of the Renewable Energy Program were awarded their course completion certificates during the ceremony. The Renewable Energy training was funded by UNDP and MMRD. This intensive five-week course started on October 16, 2017 and was completed on November 18, 2017.
