Professor Barry Named Knight of the Legion d'Honneur
AUAF University Professor Michael Barry was named as a Knight of the Legion d'Honneur by the French Ambassador to Afghanistan H.E. David Martinon on Friday, March 26, 2021, in Paris. Attendees at the event included former President H.E.Hamid Karzai; Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Ahmad Masoud, son of Ahmad Shah Masoud, along with AUAF attendees Mrs. Jacqueline Barry, Trustee Christian Destremau, and AUAF Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Victoria Fontan.
The Legion d'Honneur, created by Napoléon Bonaparte, is the highest French distinction and acknowledges 'eminent merit' in the service of the French nation. This award recognizes the extensive academic career of Professor Barry and the indefatigable service he has rendered to France as a humanitarian worker for Médecins du Monde in Afghanistan in the 1980s.
Professor Barry Afghan is a credit to AUAF and his work to preserve and expand understanding of Afghan culture and history is a source of pride for all Afghanistan. AUAF congratulates Professor Barry on this recognition of his distinguished career of service.
